Reference Tool

I just wanted to thank all the regulars here that visit on a regular basis.  I really enjoy your feedback.  I have been so busy lately, it has been hard to post here.  The web site is growing each day, and the number of visitors has increased a lot.  I enjoy when I see reputable web sites such as Red Orbit use this web site as a reference tool.  You can click here to see an example.  When a web site with a Google page rank of seven, and a Alexa rating of only 7000 uses your web site as a reference, it is a big compliment in my book.   :)

Effort And Obesity

If children do not understand what it means to give 100% effort, can it cause them to become sedentary, overweight, or even obese? The American Heart Association reports that 12 million children in the United States are overweight. One in three children are overweight, while one in seven children are obese. The rise in overweight children, obese children, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes has triggered many discussions. The major concern which arises from this topic is how this problem got started, who is responsible, and how to fix it.

One solution is to get both parent and child to work together on setting realistic goals together, or a blueprint for success. Since success (or effort) in this regard is measured differently by parent and child, communication will be the key. A good effort by the parent and child can definitely improve the health of the family. A family can sit down for a few minutes each day and make a game plan for improved health which satisfies both parent and child. The best way to accomplish this is by understanding how both sides define effort, and then building on that. Basically, teaching a child about effort can not only help them succeed in life, but also teach them about being healthy! To learn more about this, visit Len Saunders “Reach High” web site.

Diabetes Awareness For Children

There has been direct correlation between the rise in childhood obesity and the increase in type 2 diabetes for children. The key to fixing this concern is by educating children and their families. I am now in the process of creating a new Diabetes Awareness For Children web site. This will prove to be a challenge for me due to all the research needed, and so little time to accomplish the work. I welcome any or all suggestions on what can make this site better or more informative. Use the contact link to send me an email with your suggestions.

You can get a preview of the new web site here.  Please remember, it is under construction.

BAH – Break A Habit

Greetings:

I have been working on a new web site about ‘bad habits’ that hopefully help parents and children with this issue. You can get a preview of it by clicking here. Please keep in mind it is in beta format right now, so there could be some spelling, grammar, or typo mistakes.

Please shoot me an email to let me know what you think. I will use some of your changes before I actually launch it to the public. You can post comments about it here, but any mistakes you see should be emailed. Thanks.

American Heart Association

Last week I had the honor of having an organization that I have admired for a long time ask me if I’d like to become a spokesperson for them with regards to childhood obesity. Of course I said yes! In one week, they have already put me to work, which I love. I was taped for a show on CNN yesterday, as well as my name on some print media as their spokesperson.

The American Heart Association is a great organization, who really cares about reducing childhood obesity (on top of other things they do). I have also learned a lot from them in such a short time which I would like to share.

  • 12 million US children are overweight.
  • 1 in 7 children are overweight in the US.
  • 1 in 3 children are obese in the US.
  • This generation of children may be the first in a long time whose life expectancy could be shorter than their parents.

I will keep you posted on any future projects.
