Taipei American School ACES 2008

For the fourth year children of all ages celebrated in ACES Day activities at Taipei American School in Taipei, Taiwan. From kindergarten through grade five approximately 600 students took part in a station orientated warm up for two days during the first week of May. Elementary PE teachers combined each of their PE classes in a mass warm up that involved jump rope, running, hoola hooping, partner tag, and movement to music. All second through fifth graders demonstrated fantastic physical and mental effort as they jump roped for 4 minutes then quickly transitioned to hoola hoop, and then finally to running on an inside track. There was rousing music playing, throughout that many children said kept them so motivated they did not want to stop during each 'leg' of the mini ACES Day tri event. Our younger children in kindergarten and first grades demonstrated their skills at moving to surfer music with a leader, playing partner tag and then finishing with a monster cooperative effort game as a 'cool down'. One could probably ask any of our students what the reasons are to exercise, and those responses would be a unanimous it gives me more energy and it's fun!
